Policy committee proposes KASB-aligned updates including device policy, drills and naloxone requirements

The committee recommended removing a two-year limit on district investments to match recent law updates, clarifying the definition of crisis drills and awaiting KSDE guidance on active-shooter procedures, and aligning discrimination-investigation processes with Title IX regulatory changes. The committee also proposed updates to graduation requirements (IHF) to reflect new state directives on required student accomplishments.
On the student-device policy (JCDC), the subcommittee recommended language that implements the state law's disciplinary framework but exempted athletic-game communications and clarified that the district will implement the disciplinary provisions. The committee also proposed a new staff online-activity policy to govern two-way communications and a requirement that each school maintain a supply of naloxone on campus in line with state law.
Committee members said the proposed policies will be returned as consent items unless the board asked to discuss a particular change.
