The City Council authorized the mayor to execute a task order (2026-01) for culvert-extension engineering design to support a planned runway widening at Goldendale Municipal Airport. Mayor and consultant Corley McFarland explained this phase will prepare plans, specifications and cost estimates to extend the midfield drainage culvert so the runway and its safety area can be widened to meet Federal Aviation Administration recommendations.
Corley said the project originally asked WSDOT for roughly $360,000 in earlier phases but WSDOT provided $71,250 this cycle; the city will use a $3,750 match previously approved by council and limit this phase to design work while shifting wetland mitigation to a later phase. "This will take the runway pavement from 40 feet wide to 60 feet wide," Corley explained, noting the work is intended to align the airport layout plan with FAA guidance. The council approved authorization for design work with a not-to-exceed figure for the task order.
