A letter read into the record from John Koning, water quality program manager for the Department of Ecology, said the plant ranked among the top performers statewide for meeting permit criteria, conducting monitoring and reporting data.
"Your plant is one of the top performers for regularly meeting permit criteria," the mayor read from the Ecology letter, noting the city has earned the recognition for six consecutive years. Council members and staff credited plant operators and public works for protecting local water quality. Public Works also highlighted that the award reflects sustained operational attention to monitoring and reporting requirements under the plant's individual permit.
Councilors used the department reports segment to confirm upcoming work, including publishing the full parking review for East Broadway at the next meeting and pursuing fee-schedule updates in coming months. No formal action was required to accept the award; the council acknowledged staff and operators and moved on to the next agenda item.
