Council adopts trailer-parking fines, removes court-fee assignment

The Glendive City Council voted to adopt a resolution establishing fines for trailer-parking violations and clarified the limits of the city's authority over court costs.
A committee report relayed the committee's recommendation of a fine schedule: $50 for a first offense, $150 for a second offense and $300 for each subsequent violation. "The committee recommended a fine of $50 for 1st offense, 150 for 2nd offense, and 300 for each subsequent violation," the report said. Council members moved to adopt resolution No. 3218 to set those fines and approved it by roll call.
During discussion the mayor explained that while the council can set fines, it cannot assign responsibility for court fees; that determination is made by the judge. "We can set the fees, but the judge determines who pays the court," the mayor said. The council made a minor wording correction in the resolution language before final roll-call approval.
