San Antonio council hears plan for 2027 state and federal legislative programs

"Our work is amplified in Austin and in DC through the support of our Austin and DC consultants," Basurto said, describing an outreach and monitoring process that runs through the summer and into the fall.
Basurto reviewed recent session trends and a program-development timeline: departments will draft priorities through the summer; IGR briefings are planned in August and September; the full council will review a draft in October; pre-filing is targeted for Nov. 9, 2026, ahead of the Jan. 12, 2027 session start. Mayor Jones asked for a written scorecard to assess consultant performance; Basurto said contractual performance measures exist for the Austin and DC teams and that GA provides monthly briefings and grant opportunity reports.
