City staff to study two-phase Stonebridge rezoning after governance committee referral

A request from District 10 to rezone a large area of the Stonebridge neighborhood was referred to city staff for formal analysis after discussion at the June 17 governance committee meeting.
Amin Thomas, director of development services, said the area currently contains mostly duplexes but is zoned single-family residential. "Today, that area has duplexes mainly, and the area is zoned as single family residential area," Thomas said, adding staff recommends initiating a resolution to begin the rezoning process in two phases to bring nonconforming uses into alignment with appropriate zoning.
Committee members voted to approve staff's recommendation and referred the proposal for analysis and plan amendments. The referral directs Development Services to conduct the technical analysis and prepare any necessary plan and zoning changes for future council consideration.
The council did not set a final timeline for ordinance introduction; staff listed next steps as analysis, public outreach and planning commission review before any formal legislative action.
