San Antonio honors Jossy Awards winners; students to represent city at national competition

Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones introduced winners of the Jossy Awards and invited representatives from the Majestic Empire Foundation to speak about the program’s impact on arts education.
Jocelyn Blanchard, executive director of the Majestic Empire Foundation, told the council the program served more than 4,000 students from 83 high schools in 2026 and awarded more than $150,000 in scholarships, and noted partnerships with Alamo Colleges, UT San Antonio and local schools to support creative-industry pathways. She said the foundation is expanding partnerships to create career pathways in arts, hospitality and events.
One award recipient addressed the council, saying, "I'm going to the University of Michigan next year to pursue musical theater," and thanked the community for support that made college possible. Council members congratulated the students and encouraged them to return to San Antonio after their studies to continue contributing to the city’s arts scene.
