Committee orders demolition and evacuation for fire-damaged home at 1615 Alhambra

The San Antonio Building Standards Committee on June 11 ordered demolition within 30 days for the property at 1615 Alhambra after staff described extensive structural and fire damage and the absence of permits or financial documentation. Hasamas Alazaui, the officer who presented the case, told the committee the inspection showed rotten foundation posts, exposed wiring and pervasive fire- and water-related deterioration and recommended demolition.
"La inspección... mostró que los cimientos están extremadamente podridos y deteriorados," the presenting officer said, noting that photographs documented burned ceilings, missing drywall and widespread rot. Committee members clarified that the property is not historically designated, that notices had been attempted and that the city had not received permits, engineer reports or proof of funds to support repair.
After a brief Q&A, a member moved to declare the structure a public nuisance under City Code Chapter 6, Article 8 and to order demolition and site securing within 30 days; Joselize seconded. The committee accepted an amendment requiring evacuation and the motion passed 7-0. The order directs staff to secure the site, remove debris and report back per normal enforcement procedures.
