During the ceremony the mayor invited veterans forward for a photo opportunity and a ceremonial sword-assisted cake cutting, a traditional military observance. City officials noted San Antonio’s 150‑year partnership with the Army dating to the 1875 donation that became Fort Sam Houston and highlighted the city’s large population of women veterans and ongoing commitments to veterans’ services.
The recognition was followed by brief public acknowledgments from council members thanking veterans in attendance and noting the role of military installations and personnel in the city’s identity and economy. The ceremony concluded with the council’s formal appreciation and an invitation for veterans and service members to participate in the community photo and cake cutting.
