Land Services staff presented a second Swift Current Energy application for an interim use permit for a 198-foot meteorological tower in Morrill Township and recommended a four-year limit on data collection and removal of the tower thereafter.
Amy explained the property is about 40 acres, undeveloped, and that the proposed tower would be removed after four years of data collection. The applicant clarified that no permanent access road is expected and that crews would use existing township roads and field access. The applicant and staff provided measurements of site access distances: approximately 621 feet from 350th Avenue and about 366 feet from the 73rd Street edge.
Commission members examined proximity to dwellings and site topography; the panel heard that the closest residence is roughly 1,500 feet away. After answering the five zoning criteria in the affirmative, the commission moved, seconded and unanimously recommended approval to the County Board with the same 4‑year termination condition. The item will be considered by the County Board at its July 28 meeting.
