Commission okays storefront sign at 1006 Broad Street with permit condition

The Augusta Historic Preservation Commission unanimously approved a certificate of appropriateness (COA 26-25) permitting new building-mounted and storefront signage at 1006 Broad Street.
Todd Kennedy presented the staff report and said initial submittals showed conflicting images and staff requested clarification on whether an awning remained in place. Kennedy said the awning has been removed and described the proposed sign as roughly 18 inches high and 80 inches long (about 10 square feet), and recommended approval subject to applicable sign ordinances and a condition that the applicant obtain permits.
Jonathan Negumbia of FASTSIGNS, who identified himself and gave a business address, said he would "be applying for the permit right after this meeting." Commissioners added the permit condition to the motion. The motion to approve with the added condition passed unanimously.
The commission noted Historic Augusta's involvement in clarifying the design submittal and emphasized that the applicant must secure the required permits before installation.
