District academic advisory committee to press competency-based education work, refine reassessment and report-card mechanics

Ben, a district staff member, described a math-leads pilot that improved transitions and said the advisory committee will expand that model to other content areas.
Ben summarized the assessment changes under consideration: move reassessment opportunities to the interim stage before summatives, and adjust high-school grade weighting toward a 60/30/10 model (reducing summative weight and creating a modest homework/in-class category). "We have a math committee ... it has been building its momentum in such a way that... grade eight to nine was sewn up really well," Ben said when describing the pilot's effect on students’ placement and readiness.
Board members discussed operational items that remain unresolved — notably PowerSchool grade-calculation settings and report-card formatting — and agreed to treat reporting cadence and sample SQL reports as agenda items for August so the board receives material at least a week in advance for proper review. The committee plans to surface recommended decisions in September for any items that must be finalized before the 2027 school year implementation.
