On third and final reading the Chadron City Council adopted Ordinance 1448, which amends chapter 16 of the municipal code to add prohibitions on engine brakes (commonly called Jake brakes) and establishes a violation penalty.
The ordinance was read by title, moved and seconded for approval and council took no additional substantive discussion beyond prior readings. The presiding official noted an exception for emergency situations so truck operators would not be penalized if engine braking is required for safety. "Ordinance number 14 48 is hereby passed and adopted on its 3rd and final reading," the presiding official announced after roll call. The ordinance will be published according to standard municipal procedure and take effect as prescribed by the ordinance text.
