The planning commission voted July 20 to rezone two parcels on Arlington Road from Commercial Corridor and Medium Density Residential to Office Professional (RZ26‑06). Staff explained the parcels are presently used as a church that plans additions and additional parking; staff recommended Office Professional rather than Commercial General to better reflect long‑term compatibility with nearby houses.
Architect Nadine Hernandez (speaker 10) said the addition would serve as a new sanctuary and require more parking, which is the immediate driver for combining parcels and seeking the zoning change. Staff reiterated that the comprehensive plan’s Traditional Neighborhood guidance permits some institutional and small office uses near residential areas. With no members of the public opposing, the commission moved and approved the rezoning.
