John Reed, executive director of the Northwest Nebraska Development Corporation, briefed the Chadron City Council on several regional and local economic-development efforts, including a regional "roadshow" and a local NNDC-hosted event on the 11th that will focus on housing resources and community supports.
Reed said NNDC is working two loan opportunities — one in Chadron and one in Gordon — and is seeking to make existing lending capital available to local business projects. He also noted outreach on childcare solutions and grants: "We have a large amount of grants and co loans available for child care and new business startup expansion," Reed said, and said NNDC is engaging local families on early-phase childcare work. Reed reported publication of a "Good Life Spotlight" on the Museum of the Fur Trade and continuing partnership work with tourism and local health partners to support economic development.
Council members thanked Reed for the update and asked clarifying questions about partnerships and the schedule for the event; Reed said about 30 people had already responded to the local event notice and he expects the initiative to build local capacity.
