Policy committee advances BGAA and weighs targeted public-comment windows

The Policy Committee of the Keene School District Board of Education voted May 26 to recommend BGAA (policy development) to the full board as amended. Chair opened the meeting noting the livestream delay and led a discussion about whether policy location information is sufficiently available to parents, students and staff; Adam said, "Information of the policy shall be shall be included in in the handbooks that is already in our handbooks." The committee also discussed adding a short, letter-code guide or table-of-contents on the district website so people can find policies more easily.

Members spent significant time on an NHSBA suggestion that boards could allow an additional public-comment period specific to policies under consideration. Some members supported adding a committee-level, topic-specific comment window to make input more immediate and on-topic; others cautioned that at full board meetings public input is statutorily frontloaded and additional windows can complicate time-tracking and lengthen meetings. The group agreed to consider adding clarifying language to the board manual and to improve public notice and agenda timing so stakeholders know which policies will be reviewed before they attend.
