La Crosse to keep Canvas for instruction but return summative grades to Skyward to improve parent visibility

"We collectively made the decision that Canvas is just not going to be the right grade book for us and we will be migrating back this year to Skyward," the presenter said. Staff said Canvas will still be used to show classroom progress and resources while Skyward will show finalized, summative grades so parents can track performance in a routine way.
The change came up during a broader discussion about transparency: several board members and parents said families sometimes do not know their child's standing until the end of the term. Presenters said Skyward will offer a more familiar visual for families, but they also stressed the importance of teachers entering timely formative feedback so parents can see daily progress in Canvas and reach out to teachers when concerned. The district offered to distribute sample report cards and display examples at a follow‑up workshop.
