Aurora to offer bilingual help and library events as it seeks to recover missed census counts

Mayor John Lass said Aurora will layer communications and trusted local partnerships to reach undercounted neighborhoods, especially those with large Latino populations.
"The information...is gonna be both in English and Spanish," Lass said, adding that translators will be on hand at library assistance events. He noted the city will host internet self-response assistance at the Aurora Public Library District's Santore Library where staff will help people complete the census form.
To build trust and limit impersonation scams, Lass said city workers will wear city badges and identifying clothing and will have proper ID. The city is also working with an established community watch group and known local volunteers who have helped families affected by ICE actions to provide credible, trusted outreach.
Lass said the city aims to reach roughly 10,000 residents in the recount tracks and emphasized confidentiality: "The US Census Bureau will gather information from your household, but it stays with the US Census Bureau. It's not going to ICE or any law enforcement agencies."
