The La Crosse School District board completed a reorganizational set of elections and appointments during its May 5 meeting. After an initial tie in the president’s race, the board used a secret ballot and an uneven number of voters to produce a decisive result; the successful nominee was declared elected after the tiebreak ballot.
The board also elected a vice president after a 5–4 tally and confirmed Meredith Garcia as school district clerk by unanimous voice vote. Dr. Sprag was confirmed to continue as school district treasurer and Laura Stigerwald was confirmed as school board secretary; several delegates and representatives (WASB delegate and alternate, CISA representative, TIF representative and a representative for the La Crosse Public Education Foundation) were also nominated and confirmed. One member moved to close nominations and cast unanimous ballots for single nominees in several of these roles.
Procedural motions associated with the reorganization were recorded in the meeting minutes, including a motion to table the regular meeting and reconvene the reorganizational meeting (moved by Dr. Sprag and seconded by Mr. Ma), which passed by voice vote.
