Board approves linkage summary after discussions on cultural belonging

Following April linkage meetings with Black and African-American families, the board approved a linkage summary and discussed the need for structural steps to increase cultural belonging, expand liaison capacity, and produce written plans rather than one-off efforts.
The board reviewed a linkage summary that captures input from a recent meeting with Black and African-American families and moved to approve the document. Several trustees said the district must move beyond episodic events toward structural commitments: hiring or restoring culturally focused liaison roles, embedding cultural competence into school-improvement plans and producing tangible, written steps the community can review.
Trustees emphasized that belonging and cultural relevance should be districtwide rather than limited to a few campuses. One board member said, "We need to listen more and really drive the culture change by getting good advice from those who live it," and members agreed that building capacity and clear accountability will be important steps. The motion to approve the linkage summary passed with no recorded opposition.
