District monitoring report shows student‑safety gains, continuing discipline disparities

Miss Carrie Huth presented the district’s OE10 monitoring report on the learning environment and highlighted gains in student‑reported safety measures. “We are at 88% of students feel safe at school, up from 83% last year,” Huth said, citing the district student climate survey. She described three indicators — safety, belonging and adult support — all of which showed increases year‑over‑year.
The presentation also included discipline data for the 2024–25 year. The district reported serving about 6,000 students; 23.9% had at least one disciplinary incident and about 8.3% experienced in‑school or out‑of‑school suspension. Staff acknowledged significant disparities: students of color and students with disabilities experienced discipline at higher rates. Huth and Director Ammy Zabrowski described restorative practices, a district discipline committee and planned focused workgroups to address the identified gaps.
After discussion and questions from board members about trends and equity strategies, a board member moved that the district be found 'in compliance with exceptions noted' under policy BSR5 and OE10; the motion was seconded and approved by roll call.
