The School of Technology and Arts (Soda 1) briefed the board on its 30th year and described the school’s multi-age classrooms, performance assessments and emphasis on arts and technology. "Soda 1 is different from other schools because Soda 1 has drama and different activities weekly," said Fiona, a fifth-grade student, explaining why drama and performance matter to her learning.
Principal Jenna introduced staff and said the school introduces strings as early as first grade; the presentation included a short film and a first-grader performing on violin. Students who spoke cited specific projects—mapping work, a human-body replica and a wax museum—that they said helped them feel connected and confident. Board members praised the program’s emphasis on creativity and community engagement.
