The La Crosse School District Board of Education opened its May 4 meeting by recognizing student artwork selected to hang in the boardroom for the coming year and by thanking the art teachers who support arts programming. "That choice sends a powerful message to our students that their creativity matters, their voices are seen, and their work belongs in places of importance," said Casey Charelle, the district’s art content coordinator.
Board members individually described the pieces they selected and invited students to the front to receive certificates and photos. Scott Newmeister, a board member who presented one selection, said he was drawn to the artist’s use of symbolism and detail. The ceremony included more than a dozen students from elementary through high schools; administrators said the displays underline the district’s commitment to arts as part of a broader curriculum that builds problem-solving and empathy.
