Superintendent reports progress on ELL screening and gifted-program planning

Dr. M updated the board on English-language learner (ELL) screening and gifted-program development.
She said ELL screening has been completed and that the district will administer ACCESS tests in January to students identified for ELL services. "We are finalizing our ELL program plan as well as our gifted program plan; I am hoping that by December I should be able to present to the board for their consideration," Dr. M said.
Dr. M added that compensatory services will be offered where students have missed services, and that a number of students have already been identified and tested for gifted programming. The report emphasized continued identification activities and plans to create a district gifted-and-talent pool for students who show strengths but may not qualify under traditional cutoffs.
