The associate superintendent told the board the district has drafted a public engagement plan to turn the board's priorities into a working strategic plan and timeline.
"We have prepared three major surveys that we are planning to administer" to students, parents, staff, teachers and community partners, the associate superintendent said, describing focus groups, purposive interviews for families who cannot attend public meetings and a schedule that aims for a Sept. 10 update, a Sept. 17 draft of vision/mission/values, and a proposed Oct. 15 adoption date for the first page of the strategic plan.
The document presented to the board consolidates the five board-identified priorities (reading and math literacy; ELL/student support; community involvement; attendance; graduation/college and career readiness) into five higher-level domains by grouping attendance and ELL under student support and folding communication, safety and transportation under an "operations and effectiveness" domain. The associate superintendent said the process will also incorporate the district's broader list of 12 priorities discussed at the Aug. 10 workshop.
Board members asked for data from advisory meetings and for student-council input; the presenter said student-council meetings, focus groups and purposive interviews will cover the district's nine communities. The board will receive the next formal update at the meeting on Sept. 10 and can decide whether to schedule a public listening session and when to present the draft for adoption.
