District outlines timetable for State Road addition and new elementary school; Hogan demolition, bids set for fall

On the State Road addition and remodel, Levina said pre-bid walkthroughs have been completed, bids were issued and a bid opening was scheduled for Sept. 16 with a board contract recommendation targeted for Sept. 22; construction is expected to begin in late October with a projected substantial completion of Sept. 1, 2026. Levina noted the district plans to occupy and merge schools in August 2027, a year after project completion.
The new elementary school design is nearing completion, with a design review with the City of La Crosse planned for Sept. 19. Levina said Hogan demolition bids will be released, and the district is coordinating with Habitat for Humanity to reclaim reusable architectural items before demolition and planned asbestos abatement.
Levina also reviewed summer capital work that is completed or underway: a teched building in use, a generator relocation, Logan High bleacher replacement and a district freezer installation; additional projects include track work at Central tied to greenhouse permitting. Board members asked about reuse and reclamation, demolition timing and how building closures will be memorialized; Levina said community walk-throughs and documentation are planned.
No formal approvals were required at the meeting; the board will consider bid awards when bids are opened and staff present contract recommendations.
