Facilities director outlines $30M+ deferred projects and preventive‑maintenance gains in OE‑12 report

"What does that mean? In La Crosse we have 17 sites on 127 acres and over 1.5 million square feet of building," Lavina said, using the building inventory to frame the scale of district facilities work.
Lavina told the board that projects taken offline previously amounted to about $19.6 million, and when State Road is included the deferrals rise to more than $30 million. He reviewed preventive‑maintenance contracts, condition‑assessment meetings with principals, and an increase in recorded work orders—over 2,000 in the latest year, roughly 1,000 more than the prior year—attributing part of the rise to improved reporting as well as increased workload. He also described energy rebates of about $144,000 and an estimated $136,000 in annual savings from recent energy projects, part of funds reinvested into additional projects.
Board members questioned scope and vendors (Johnson Controls and Complete Controls), project schedules and life‑cycle cost assumptions. The meeting included detailed discussion of solar projects, HVAC life‑cycle examples, safety assessments (annual vulnerability walks and the district 'Speak Up, Speak Out' report) and facility‑use metrics (44,000 community hours beyond the school day). The board later voted that the superintendent and district are in compliance with OE‑12 (motion passed by roll call).
