Board conditionally accepts low demolition bid for North Knox East, pending contract
Summary
The North Knox School Corp board voted to accept the lowest bid for demolition of the North Knox East site, contingent on a lawyer-drafted contract spelling out asbestos handling, weight tickets and work-hour requirements; staff will offer the contract to the low bidder for acceptance and return for final approval if needed.

The Chair told the board the district had received three bids to demolish North Knox East and asked how the board wished to proceed. Reported bids were: Karns at about $596,200; Robinson's at $319,898; and Mullins at $368,769. The board voted to accept the lowest bid conditionally and authorized staff to present a contract that the district attorney is preparing.
The Chair said the attorney is drafting a contract covering required work hours, weight tickets and asbestos filings and removal of footers, and advised contractors to have legal representation review the agreement before signing. “However you guys would prefer,” the Chair said, relaying staff counsel; “I can’t see that it’s better one way or the other.” The Chair clarified staff will offer the contract first to the low bidder; if that bidder declines, the district will move to the next low bidder and return to the board for approval.
The action approved by voice vote was explicitly conditional on the completed contract and bidder acceptance. The board did not record roll-call tallies in the transcript; the motion passed by voice vote. Staff said they will return with the finalized contract for ratification or present the next-lowest bidder if needed.
