Council appoints TJ Norris to Seaside Community Center Commission

TJ Norris, who said he moved to Seaside about a year ago and served two years with the Peace Corps, was appointed to the Community Center Commission after a brief interview at the start of Tuesday’s meeting.
“Those are all good questions. My name is TJ Norris, living here in Seaside. Moved here a yearish ago,” Norris told the council, adding he’d volunteered at the community center’s Thanksgiving lunch and reviewed budget materials during a prior meeting. He told councilors he is retired and has time to attend monthly meetings and “wants to serve on the board to make sure that the community center continues to be well managed and well funded and well maintained.”
Councilor T. Montero moved the appointment; a second was recorded and the voice vote carried. Mayor Wright welcomed Norris after the motion carried. The council noted there are still vacancies on other advisory bodies including the airport advisory board and the city tree board, and asked staff to continue recruitment and outreach for those openings.
The appointment will be reflected in the minutes and Norris’s contact information was to be forwarded to the city recorder so the new commissioner can receive orientation materials and the charter templates staff is preparing for committees.
