Staff presented several district maintenance and remediation projects slated in the capital plan. At Hamilton Elementary, staff said carpeting previously installed over 9x9 asbestos tile will be removed and the full classroom floors replaced in four rooms as part of remediation and modernization. "That is asbestos tile... we're replacing it now because of that reason," the presenter said.
Northwoods will receive hallway flooring and bathroom sink replacements; Southern Bluffs will get an AC unit for the office and an LGI remodel; Summit will have roof replacement over the gym (foam roof at end of life). Staff said these projects follow a standard of replacing aging components and prioritizing public-facing spaces and safety-related items such as access control and upgraded security software.
Staff also said architecture and engineering consulting funds are budgeted where needed for design and bidding. The presenter emphasized that some maintenance requires carefully scheduled windows to avoid disrupting heavy building use.
