Hogan Elementary: geothermal wells, 195-panel solar array and new playground under way

Staff updated the board on construction at Hogan Elementary, saying the project includes geothermal wells, new furniture and a new playground selected by district committees. "Know that we have 110 geothermal wells, 500 ft deep. As of today, they have finished 30 of them," the presenter said.
The presenter also described a planned solar installation: "We're putting solar. Hogan Elementary School, we're putting solar. We'll have 195 solar panels. We think they'll also offset utilities by about 50%." Staff clarified the estimate was conservative and that battery backup was not included in the current plan (a backup generator will be available). A furniture committee conducted trials and selected vendors after teachers tested desks and seating, and a playground RFP produced a chosen vendor for 4K and general-play areas.
Playground surfacing will mix rubber surfacing and wood chips to meet budget and accessibility goals, while 4K play areas will be age-appropriate and accessible. Staff said committee processes for furniture and playground selection will become district standards going forward.
