A naming committee that drew on over 1,000 community nominations (about 650 nominations for one site and 375 for the other) forwarded three recommended names plus the option to retain each site's current name.
For the State Road site (Hinchin and State Road communities), the committee recommended: Woodside Elementary, Maple Ridge Elementary, and Pamel Creek Elementary, and included the current name State Road Elementary. For the Hogan site (Emerson and Spence communities), recommendations were: Two Bridges Elementary, Cliffwood Elementary, River Bluff Elementary, and Hogan Elementary (the current site name).
Shelley Shur described a process that emphasized criteria such as timelessness, inclusivity, ease of use, and ties to place; the committees prioritized names connected to natural geography and community identity. Board members asked staff to research any deed-related naming obligations for the Hogan parcel before the board takes final action at a future meeting.
Administration emphasized that the process was advisory and that the final naming authority rests with the board. No final name was chosen at this meeting; the board will receive a follow-up report with any deed restrictions and may schedule additional public input if the board requests it.
