The council approved hiring Savannah Ledric as a full-time day-shift police officer after Chief Laws and others described her background and the hiring process. Laws said Ledric is certified in Arkansas and has two to three years' experience; the council noted she will complete a Mississippi refresher course through the state's minimum standards board and that the city will pay for the required training.
Assistant Chief Laws told the council that "she checks out good" following the background and interview process, and the council voted by voice to hire her effective the day of the meeting with an anticipated start date around March 1. The council and staff discussed whether she could begin refresher training before the official start date and agreed to explore scheduling options.
