Jonathan Tanner, the city’s public works representative, presented photos and two bid options for the work: "They'll cut them down, haul them off and grind the stumps for $3,000," he said. Tanner and other board members emphasized that the oak sits on the property line and could cause serious damage to nearby houses or power lines if it fell.
A motion to accept Wally Tree Service’s $3,000 bid passed unanimously. The board instructed staff to proceed with contracting and scheduling removal; Tanner said he would get the work in the queue and notify affected neighbors. No separate funding vote was required because the item was treated as routine maintenance paid from existing accounts.
The board’s decision follows the department’s review of photos and a site visit; members said they preferred stump grinding at the time of removal to avoid future trip hazards and follow-up costs.
