The Union City Borough Council on Aug. 13 unanimously approved hiring Kenneth Fye from the certified civil service list as a part-time police officer. Councilors said a part-time hire would reduce payroll costs while improving shift coverage.
Mayor Robert Wolf, speaking during the meeting, emphasized the department’s local value, saying it is “important to maintain a Police Department in the Borough,” and recommended a part-time hire. Borough Manager Cindy Wells told council the budget had allowed at least $33,560 for wages and benefits and that the final cost would depend on the officer’s scheduled hours. Councilor Joyce moved the hiring motion and Councilor Osborn seconded; council approved the motion unanimously.
