The Shamrock Lakes clerk circulated a proposed 2026 budget, compared it with 2025 and earlier years, and briefed the board on anticipated state-driven adjustments that will affect the town's receipts.
The clerk explained that a portion of the revenue previously projected will be returned to taxpayers under the state's tax-cap mechanism, producing a larger-than-expected reduction (an example increase from about $6,000 last year to roughly $12,000 this year). Members said they had already held a budget meeting with a regional representative and that the proposal will be on the agenda for an October vote, but cautioned that final state allocations in November could require further amendments.
Board members discussed items likely to move, including professional-service expenses for ordinance codification and consultant work, and sought additional detail on consultant hours and invoices. The clerk said recent legal bills had been modest — one recent item for $174 — but acknowledged continuity of work could increase professional fees and said she would provide a more detailed ledger of consultant and attorney charges.
Members also reviewed operating and restricted funds for roads, maintenance and other services and discussed how to preserve sufficient carryover to maintain operations through the first half of the following year if state payments shift. The board did not vote on the budget and will return it to the October meeting for formal action.
