County wind and solar ordinances updated by committee; APC review set for July 1

A committee that includes representatives from the county and neighboring towns has been updating five- and ten-year-old wind and solar ordinances. The town committee chair reported that the committee has completed a review and plans to send the drafts to the county attorney for legal review and then to the Area Planning Commission; the APC review was scheduled for July 1 at 6 p.m.
Committee members discussed differences between the wind and solar drafts and said a few items in the solar draft must be added to the wind ordinance. Board members raised questions about where proposed wind and solar projects would be located relative to the town and requested updated maps; the committee said it would scan and distribute maps rather than expecting members to view them on mobile devices.
"I want to steer them somewhere where they can understand that you're not going to see a wind turbine right outside of our town as of now," the committee member said, describing concerns about visibility and siting. The committee will finalize corrections and return the drafts to the attorney and scheduling process.
