Council authorizes chassis remount to speed ambulance replacement, saving about $70,000

Council authorized staff to sign an agreement to proceed with a remount using a chassis the city already owns, accelerating the replacement of an ambulance that was in an insured collision. Staff explained that the remount uses an existing, recently purchased chassis and the insurance settlement will be routed through the city's ER&R (equipment reserve) fund to complete the purchase and remount.
"This actually saves us $70,000," staff said, explaining that a new chassis and build would likely be two years out and cost substantially more. Staff estimated the remount build time at about 14 to 16 weeks if the manufacturer starts immediately. Council moved and approved the authorization so staff can finalize procurement paperwork and begin the remount process.
