The Board of Selectmen heard from the Board of Education representative about a $200,000 allocation in FY27 to begin resurfacing the rubberized playground surfaces at the town's three elementary schools.
Joe said each rubberized playground surface typically lasts about 20 years; the request is structured as three years of $200,000 to cover the three elementary-school playgrounds, requiring removal of the old surface, base repairs and installation of new rubberized surfacing. "Those surfaces last roughly 20 years on average," Joe said. Staff noted annual testing required by state law and that some playgrounds are showing advanced wear and patching; selectmen asked about aligning timing with other site work and whether a smaller paving job (asphalt) could be advanced for one site earlier if funds permit.
Board members asked staff to monitor timing and opportunistically accelerate the smallest project if year-end funds become available.
