Gary told the board the Building Maintenance FY27 request includes funding a facilities manager for three quarters of the year (budgeted for nine months) and explained the role will free him from first-line supervision to focus on capital and asset-management planning. "One is free me up from doing some of the first line supervision and some of it is just managing day-to-day operations," he said, describing duties including daily capital-project oversight, contract-management follow-up, NFPA sprinkler and alarm inspections and starting five- and 10-year asset-inventory work.
Members asked about qualifications, solar/roof assessments and whether the nine-month budgeted fill window was realistic. Gary said the post requires technical, reporting and computer skills to manage systems and energy analysis; he agreed to notify the board if recruitment proves difficult and to report back on a hiring timeline.
