Public Works seeks $40,000 pavement survey using LAR/AI to guide multi-year road work

Gary told the board he proposes a modern pavement-condition survey that uses a LAR vehicle outfitted with sensors and AI to assess cracking, depressions and pavement color across all accepted town roads and generate a Pavement Condition Index (PCI). He estimated the one-time cost at about $40,000 and said the vendor would integrate results into the town GIS and help shape a multiyear resurfacing plan.
Board members asked whether the project would be bid and how soon the findings would be usable for capital planning. Gary said the town can put the work out to bid or use a known vendor that already integrates with the town's GIS layers, and he estimated the work could be completed within about six months if funds are available July 1. Members suggested coordinating the pavement data with water-service replacement plans to avoid repaving areas that will soon have utility work.
