Sussex County commissioners were informed July 22 that the State Agricultural Development Committee issued 'green light approval' for the Whitehorse Estates LLC farmland preservation application submitted under the county planning incentive grant program.
Commissioner Carney said the farm is a 162-acre property in Montague Township with approximately 49 acres of cropland, 23 acres of pasture and 40 acres of soils identified as prime statewide or unique importance. Following green‑light approval, the division of planning will initiate a full market appraisal and statewide formula evaluation as the next steps in the preservation process.
The board also heard that the county will coordinate with planning and administrative staff to proceed with appraisal and funding steps under the farmland preservation program.
