Sussex County authorizes potential intervention in state probe of JCP&L storm reliability

Sussex County’s board voted July 22 to authorize the county administrator to pursue participation in a New Jersey Board of Public Utilities proceeding that targets JCP&L’s reliability performance for 2022–2024.
The county administrator told commissioners the BPU issued an order to show cause and established a deadline of Aug. 12, 2026, for anyone wishing to intervene in docket EO25070453. “The docket number with the BPU is EO25070453,” the administrator said, and added the county will post filing instructions online and consult county counsel about next steps. County counsel told the board a formal resolution authorizing intervention would be helpful. The board adopted that resolution on a roll-call vote with all members recorded as yes.
The administrator also said the BPU opened a related review (docket EO26070387) of electric distribution companies’ July 4 weekend storm performance and required each utility to file a post-event report within 20 days. The county encouraged residents and businesses to file public comments directly with the BPU.
