The Lake County Schools board reviewed sealed bids July 13 for a districtwide upgrade from aging analog cameras to an IP-based surveillance system and voted to proceed with Curtis Electric.
Staff said five packets were returned and presented bid totals ranging widely; Forefront, Freedom Security and others also submitted proposals. The recommended approach follows a security assessment and an RFP that required NDAA‑approved equipment. Board members emphasized the need to move rapidly so work can be completed before classes resume.
During discussion a board member said, "I think Bruce has done a wonderful job. And the thing I like about having Bruce is he is local," citing responsiveness as a reason to favor a local bidder. Vivian moved to allow Curtis Electric to continue to provide the service; John seconded and the motion passed on a roll-call vote. Staff noted the winning proposal is valid for a limited time and will be followed by a formal contract with warranty and timeline details.
