Designers and staff propose continuous Harbor Walk; property coordination under way

Designers and city staff described plans and coordination that aim to create a continuous Harbor Walk through the site, reclaiming waterfront access that was closed in prior decades. Liam Davis and Harbormaster Steve Land said the building relocation creates an opportunity to open a continuous pedestrian route that connects through adjacent properties and enhances views to the water.
Land recounted an early discussion with an adjacent property owner and said the owner and their engineers are advancing permitting to redesign their marina and open a walkway. “Jim Prakashanti actually called me out of the blue and said I'd like to have a harbor walk that goes in front of the Treadway,” Land said, and staff reported that zoning and planning approvals are in progress for the adjacent parcel that will enable the connection.
Speakers cautioned that trees and landscape decisions will be addressed by the Tree and Open Space Commission in upcoming meetings and that some design iterations may affect view corridors. The Harbor Walk concept was described as a long‑term enhancement to pedestrian circulation and downtown connectivity.
