Enrollment falls by 102 students, district staff say

Travis Harley, the district’s enrollment lead, told the Anderson County Board on Sept. 9 that the district has 102 fewer students compared with the same time last year. Harley said the high school accounted for roughly a 55-student decline and that some elementary grades — notably kindergarten at several schools — contributed significantly to the loss.
Harley noted about 50 students have withdrawn to homeschooling over the previous 12–13 months, and he emphasized that attendance rates have improved despite the drop in head count: “prior to COVID our attendance rates were right at 95% … at this time our attendance is back up to 94.2%,” Harley said. Board members asked whether staffing changes were planned; Harley said no positions had been cut as of the Sept. 9 update and that staffing projections are based on spring enrollment estimates.
