Assessor Paige presented the assessor's FY27 budget request and highlighted a modest overall increase driven by staffing needs tied to anticipated commercial development and a scheduled 2026 revaluation. "Our net grand list this year increased by 0.081% over last year's post-board of assessment appeals totals," she said.
Paige said the department completed 20 of 27 selected business personal property audits this year, yielding a three-year total tax increase of $40,247 and adding about $1.88 million in assessed value to the grand list. To handle revaluation and in-house auditing work, the office requests restoring a part-time year-round assessor's aide (about 19-20 hours/week) and adding a seasonal aide for July's busy period. The board asked for clarification on the staffing mix; Paige confirmed the office currently has three full-time staff and an assessment technician and that neither requested position is full-time.
Board members noted the town's unusually large grand list (discussed as "four plus billion" during remarks) and asked whether the office will be engaged in Milstone and other commercial valuation work; Paige said certified staff will be involved and she plans to bring staff into initial appraisal discussions. The board approved the assessor budget.
