A discussion at the St. Clair Board of Aldermen meeting examined whether the splash park should open earlier than the posted 10 a.m. start time.
The mayor noted the posted sign says the park opens at 10 a.m., and Administrator Welty said the splash-park sensor is programmed to prevent operation before that time but can be changed if the board decides. “Parts are open from dawn to dusk...we have a program so that the sensor won't work until 10AM. So And we can change that really easily,” Welty explained. Board members and parks staff discussed routine cleaning schedules and the need for periodic contractor work for winterization or major mechanical repairs; staff said three employees are trained to operate and maintain the system for daily tasks.
Several aldermen expressed concern for residents or workers who may not be able to use earlier hours; members suggested a compromise (6:30 a.m. or 9:00 a.m.) could be considered. The board did not adopt a change that evening but asked staff to consider sign replacements and seasonal timing if a future change is proposed.
