Superintendent: valve failure led to boil-water notice; wastewater plant equipment also repaired
Summary
A valve failure and brittle old pipe led to a boil-water notice that lasted about 3.5 days; wastewater plant operations were affected by a failing VFD and an inoperable gearbox, both addressed by staff actions and pending replacement orders.

Superintendent Steve reported that an unrestrained valve and an inadequate thrust block caused a valve to blow off during a connection, leading to a loss of tank water and a subsequent boil-water notice after a failed sample. "We ended up with another boil water notice... that's why we ended up you know 3 and 1/2 days on boil water," he said, describing repeated sampling and state guidance to resample after repairs.
On the wastewater side, the plant's polymer system was malfunctioning and the variable-frequency drive (VFD) that controls a pump was removed and repaired by a drive specialist; operations resumed after staff installed a replacement that same afternoon. A separate gearbox for the day tank agitator has failed; staff obtained a quote of about $2,500 and an estimated lead time of five to six weeks and are pursuing faster options and temporary workarounds to keep the system operating.
