Akron fire chief reports six runs, equipment issues and pursuit of grants for radios

Fire Chief M. Hasso told the council the department had six runs during the month and practiced tactics at the Judd Road brush pile on May 20. He reported Engine 11 and Quint 12 passed annual pump tests and that the team has performed maintenance and small repairs, but noted a charging issue on Engine 11 that may require battery replacement and that a pump overheating alarm activated during an incident.
Chief Hasso said he is preparing grant submissions and fundraising activity, and will apply for a DNR grant to help pay for radios on a 50/50 cost-split basis. He also raised concern about the tornado siren not activating in town and noted that many residents receive phone alerts before responders can react; councilmember M. Strasz suggested applying for grant funding for a new siren.
